This Moment, COP26, Is Climate Activists’ Last Hope

With the 2021 elections going sour for progressives across the entire country, with the only major exception being Boston’s mayoral race, we face a unique moment in history.

Not only that, but Biden is also paying lip service to the climate crisis at the COP26 meetings as we speak while simultaneously pushing through new oil and gas permits in an attempt to boost his election prospects.

With Sinema and Manchin holding our planet hostage and the indifference of our current administration, activists may feel defeated. Although, doing so will only seal our fate.

The Climate Crisis

I hope this is redundant to most readers at this point, but it can’t be understated. We are at the very last stage where there is even a sliver of hope for organized human life to persist in any recognizable form.

No, that does not mean overnight. In fact, if we hit the 1.5- or 2-degree threshold, we won’t see the worst effects, possibly not even in our lifetimes. However, there will be processes set in place that cannot be undone, and the worst effects will be felt by the generations still to come.

It’s not an understatement to call this one of the great mass extinctions of Earth’s long history, and humans are not immune. However, I digress.
